Yoga Class Descriptions
All-levels Vinyasa: Breath linked to movement. In this class, we’ll sometimes integrate ropes and end with a peak pose. Rope-free options and a variety of modifications will be offered to accommodate skill (and energy) levels.
Hatha: Hatha classes emphasize longer holds, integrating a practice of body postures with breath and meditation. This class is suitable for all-levels and is a good way to hone skillful alignment in a slower-paced practice.
Storytime Yin (and Somatics): A slower-paced practice of somatic movement paired with passive poses typically held for 3-5 minutes to gently access connective tissue. Enjoy these restorative yin poses while Kim reads to you: short stories or novels, typically.
Flow/Hatha Mix: In this longer class, we spend a little more time breaking poses down individually before adding them to the flow. The additional time also provides more opportunities for a mix of movement and pauses.
Welcome! Preparing for your first class.
Wear comfortable clothing you can move in easily. Bring a mat if you have one, but we have mats to borrow for free. The Yoga Path is located at 7641 Pacific Street (right next to the Interlude, if that serves as a good land mark). Come right on in — you’ll find a few benches to deposit your coat, bag, shoes, etc. The entry is visible during class, so no worries about your items going missing during class. After you leave your shoes and things, I’ll help you get settled and show you where the props are located and what you’ll need for the day’s practice. Then, you can simply relax quietly on your mat or chat with the other yogis until class begins. We have changing rooms, a sink for water refills, and a restroom on the lower level.
The space and people are warm and welcoming. Don’t worry about a thing.
Bio
Kim originally came to yoga through athletics while in graduate school as a way to stretch after workouts and unwind from academic stress. After earning her Masters in English, she began training with Theresa Murphy and Tias Little. She has now been teaching yoga for over a decade and has her 500-hour certification through Prajna Yoga in Santa Fe, NM. She weaves yoga philosophy into her classes through a combination of poetry and story, and emphasizes the importance of a healthy sense of humor, curiosity, and alignment, while encouraging students to find an appropriate level of challenge in their practice. As a full-time lecturer at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Kim teaches a mindfulness class she developed called The Mindful Student, as well as composition and literature classes. She continues to turn to yoga as a complement to her active lifestyle, both physically and mentally, and enjoys sharing the benefits with her students – both at the university and at the yoga studio.
